Eeeek!

Nov 20th 2018

The big day! Nerves are tingling, brain is racing – today we have our first proper days training for the season ahead. There are cookery workbenches laid out, ingredients a plenty…..

Most the rest of the newbies have tried a lot of the menu out already, but our work commitments have been too onerous to do the same, so we’ll be playing catch up.

The sun is shining in Tignes, the mountains looks stunning….I can’t wait to get stuck in!

New to Newhaven

We’re on the ferry! I suspect we are in for a rough crossing though, its been blowing a hoolie all night.

We are sailing Newhaven to Dieppe for a change, and we found the journey into Newhaven much more pleasant than the bumpy, truck congested road into Dover. And we woke up in Newhaven this morning to find that its really quite pretty, lots of painted houses and a harbour full of little boats.

We should arrive at 3 and the plan today is to head to Caen, a city we missed when touring Normandy last year simply because we ran out of time. If we can find a suitable aire we’ll stay couple of days and explore.

My challenge today is laundry. I put a load through whilst staying at my mums and drying it in a little Roadscout is proving interesting. We have clothes hung up from lockers, the shower, over the back of chairs…anywhere they might get some air through. It smells lush, but I’d like to get my van back from the mobile laundry room it has become!

& so it begins…

Excited! Full of anticipation! A little jaded from many farewell drinks….. but, after much packing, storing, runs to the tip, and general mayhem, and after many final ‘ta -ra’s with wonderful, well wishing friends, we are on the road. Van packed, a bit nervous cos we might be overweight to begin with, as we offload a few more items to various new living places, our last few days in Blighty will be spent visiting family members on our journey to the ferry port.

In our heads, the plan is fairly simple. Work for 5 months in the Alps, chalet hosting and skiing, then travel for the summer. And if we like it, rinse and repeat.

Farewell dinner with the family, and a meal out with the kids at the Hop Pole in Retford

And we’re off for an adventure – hope you can join us
